When we discussed human rights day in class today some asked me to blog this site so they can investigate later so here it is. We looked at the Lubican Cree situation up north and there is a video that is 36 minutes long that will tell of their plight. Let me know what you think and/or discuss further in class. Suggestions for human rights day welcomed!?

I went to Ethiopia this summer and after this trip I went around to schools all over Alberta and I told them about the issues in Ethiopia. After each presentation many people came up to me and said; how do I make a difference? So I then told them how they can get involved in their own communities and to start there. But then, after countless questions of how to make a difference I final grasped this new idea. This idea of being a good person, it may sound childish but this is the number one fundamental thing that anyone can do. People for many centuries have lived in poverty and horrific situations, and in my understanding it was because of the selfishness that man cannot let go. Mans ability to overlook moral beliefs and find value in things that shouldn’t matter in this world. From birth we all understand the feeling of when we do something good, and that feeling alone says so much about the human spirit. It says that in our hearts we understand what the right thing to do is, so let me ask you something why is it that at least 80 percent of the human race lives on less than 10 dollars a day. Can this ever be justifiable? Human rights day is a day to celebrate and acknowledge these rights we so often take for granted. So start by making yourself a better person, how can you grasp and take all of these opportunities that you are given in Canada and make the world just that much better. Make yourself a happier person and wish for others what you want. Leave everything, but take your humanity and run with it.
