As we begin our unit on politics, it is timely to run into this article. Timely as it speaks to the collective apathy we feel about political decision making. The article suggests why the system is broken and how it is made to be 'dysfunctional'. Take a position and let me know if this makes sense to you and if so how we could repair what Mr Salutin see's as a messed up system. Read it here.

I think this ties in great with the last post you made about the Afghan war, in that it speaks of a problem our whole society is facing right now: apathy. I just don't see people caring the way they should in North America, or most of the world for that matter. It seems like our whole culture has shifted away from praising and encouraging political activism into one more focused on personal gain and advancement. That why I don't think we'll see peace in our lifetimes, we don't have a global culture that can allow this to happen. People have too much invested in war and greed to allow a different way of thinking to flourish.
ReplyDeleteAs much as im not a fan of politics, and i think that as while it is made dysfunctional. However i do know that it try's to bring some sort of order, even though its a pretty crapy order in society. I feel just as humans made war a big investment, why can t we make peace a big investment. Initially, i know that since the politician are supported by people it shows how much power we have, so instead of making a politician represent the ideals that we think are right, why don't we, the people instead of electing we practice those ideals. If we believe in peace then we should represent it ourselves, not let some "dysfunctional" system represent it. In a way though since it does bring some sort of order i do feel it could be a double edged sword for the people sometimes.
