This blog is a result of many students wishing to delve into topics lightly discussed due to curricular demands but would like to investigate further. I am fortunate to teach students who want to challenge conventional wisdom and seek further discourse as a way to empower themselves to help shape the world they live in.

Oakland Occupy Police Action
As requested I'm posting the video we watched re: the Oakland storming of the police upon the Occupy Protest. Here it is.
i view this information as very disturbing as it undermines the very roots of the american constitution. police brutality on a peaceful protest... what has become of the justice system? in america there are laws which give people the right to protest(as long as it's peaceful) so someone has to be blamed for this incident. my perspective on this event is that the blame rests not only on Mayor Jean Quan's shoulders, but also on the shoulders of the police officers involved in the tragic outbreak during the protest. if the officers were following orders... did they not gone through police schooling?(where they should of learned that they cannot use violence on peaceful protesters), do they not have a mind of their own to distinguish that the protesters were unarmed and peaceful? PEOPLE DIED for goodness sake. there were zero casualties for the law enforcement because the violence came from the law enforcement. the officers involved in the deaths of the several civilians NEED to be brought to justice and punished for their inhumane actions. NOBODY SHOULD BE ABOVE THE LAW.
